It also seemed to bring out the worst in people, with several groups bringing Bang & Olufsen speakers blaring out K-Pop. We went a few weeks ago and the bay was pretty quiet, one area with a bit of rubbish but generally clear seas which was the two reasons we wanted to avoid ha long bay. Cat Ba would be pretty cool to explore on the bike too and should be easy enough on ferry which is cheaper than the hydrofoil.
